Statement on presentation about Hong Kong social movement in IEATA conference 2020
A registered expressive arts therapist has published an abstract for a presentation in the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) Conference 2020 with the theme related to the recent social movement in Hong Kong. We, the Expressive Arts Therapy Association of Hong Kong (EATAHK), received a number of enquiries that we would like to express our concern to this incident.
The abstract published in the IEATA conference 2020 were merely personal opinions of the writer and should not be taken as the views of EATAHK.
The abstract was being reviewed by the IEATA and Ottawa University Review Committee that, we, EATAHK, has not participated nor contributed in the review process.
The Expressive Arts Therapy Association of Hong Kong (EATAHK) respects different voices of our members, meanwhile, we also encourage the expression of different voices on international platforms. As we have gathered various thoughts towards the aforementioned abstract, EATAHK has written to the IEATA in order to reflect broader perspectives about the social movement in Hong Kong.
The Expressive Arts Therapy Association of Hong Kong (EATAHK) shall endeavour to promote the development of expressive arts therapy in Hong Kong, to provide a platform for communications and exchange of ideas, to serve the community in attempt to foster deep personal growth and community development.
We firmly believe in the importance of safeguarding justice, and the power of expressive arts therapy in healing individuals and the community. Hong Kong is at a difficult time that we sincerely encourage every helping professional to maintain a practice with justice and conscience.
